What We Collect

Nudge collects only what it needs to work:

• Email address — to identify your account and send magic link verification
• Phone number — to deliver SMS deadline reminders (optional, Pro only)
• Canvas API token — to read your course assignments from Canvas LMS
• Assignment data — cached locally on your device so the app works offline
• Streak & study stats — stored locally on your device
• Payment info — processed entirely by Stripe; Nudge never sees your card number

How We Use It

Your data is used for one purpose: helping you stay on top of your schoolwork.

• Canvas token → fetch assignments from your school's Canvas instance
• Email → account verification and account recovery
• Phone → send SMS reminders before deadlines (only when you enable them)
• Stats → displayed to you in-app only; never shared

We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising. Full stop.

Where Data Lives

Most of your data lives on your device — assignments, streaks, settings, study minutes. Nothing is uploaded unless you actively use a cloud feature.

When you connect Canvas, your token is stored locally and used only to call your school's Canvas API directly from your device. Nudge's servers never proxy or store your Canvas credentials.

SMS reminders are processed through Twilio using only your phone number and reminder text.

Third-Party Services

Nudge uses the following services:

• Canvas LMS API — your school's own system; subject to your school's privacy policy
• Twilio — SMS delivery (phone number shared for message routing only)
• Supabase — backend infrastructure for account and sync features
• Stripe — payment processing (card data never touches Nudge's servers)

Each service operates under its own privacy policy.

SMS / Text Message Program

Nudge offers optional SMS reminders so you never miss an assignment deadline.

• Consent: You opt in inside the Nudge app — under Settings you enable "SMS reminders" and enter your own mobile number. We never buy, share, or sell phone numbers, and your number is used only to send you the reminders you requested.
• What we send: Reminder texts about your own assignments, classes, and study sessions before they're due. No marketing, no third-party messages.
• Message frequency varies based on how many reminders you set.
• Message & data rates may apply from your mobile carrier.
• Opt out anytime: reply STOP to any message, or turn reminders off in the app. Reply HELP for help, or email nudgeneverbehind@gmail.com.
• Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Your consent to receive SMS is not a condition of any purchase.

Educational Records (FERPA)

Nudge is a student-built tool that accesses Canvas data using your own credentials — the same way you would log in to Canvas yourself. Nudge acts as your agent, not as a school-authorized third party.

Assignment titles, due dates, and course names retrieved from Canvas are stored locally on your device only. Nudge does not share, upload, or sell any educational record data.

Data Retention & Deletion

Your data stays on your device until you delete it. Clearing app data, uninstalling, or using the "Export & Reset" option in the About screen removes all locally stored information.

To request deletion of any server-side account data (email, phone), contact us at nudgeneverbehind@gmail.com and we'll process it within 7 days.

Children's Privacy

Nudge is designed for college students and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a minor has submitted information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above and notify users in-app. Continued use of Nudge after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
